On the heels of Manny Pacquiao’s annihilation of Antonio Margarito, yesterday ESPN’s 1st And 10 examined recent statements made by Bernard Hopkins regarding Pacquiao’s supposed unwillingness to fight African American boxers since he has never fought one in his illustrious career – a fact I was completely was unaware of.
Though Pacquiao did fight and beat African Joshua Clottey, the fighting style of African Americans is much different from those of our African brothers and others and is attributed to the fact that unlike many of their counterparts, most African American boxers learned how to fight in the streets as mentioned here before, and those techniques aren’t taught in the uber technical sport of boxing which makes it hard to defend.
