The Simpson viewers were left in shock this weekend when notorious British “street artist” and political activist Banksy directed the opening sequence for the prime time cartoon. Using his usual form of subversive epigrams and irreverent dark humor, the rebel graffiti artists directorial television debut began lightly but took a sharp turn with depictions of children working in a sub-level toxic ridden sweatshop to create Bart Simpson dolls made of slaughtered kittens. Sounds like the kitchen of a local Brooklyn chinese fast food restaurant. Anyway the images reportedly caused production delays, disputes over broadcast standards, and a threatened walk out by the show’s animation department leaving the shows executive producer Al Jean to quip in a statement, “This is what you get when you outsource.” – ICE
